Our Story
The daily needs of people, especially those whose income could hardly suffice for at least their basic needs, are unending. They would always ask for help, especially in times of calamities, sicknesses, seasons where there is scarcity of job opportunities, enrollment of school-age children, and other situations where they are caught on the edge.
Having the burden, I would send some help using my own resources. But since I am just one person and lately, my health condition has deteriorated and needs more attention, I was forced to quit my job, and so my resources became so little compared to the increasing number of people and families asking for help.
In 2018, I had a dream. I saw myself providing assistance to many orphaned children and other children living below the poverty line. As I woke up, I prayed for God’s will, and I will obey. I started ordering whitening beauty soaps from the Philippines, had them shipped here in California, and sold them in retail to friends with the profit intended to assist a few orphans I know in the Philippines. Recipients were so happy and thankful, which inspired me more to continue the work. When some friends learned what I’m doing, they expressed interest in joining me and shared some amount every time I would send some help, not only for the needy children but also for the victims of floods and typhoons, and those who need medical and livelihood assistance. Some give monthly pledges. A small amount here can be very big in the Philippines.
With strong conviction, I was moved to organize a foundation and make transactions legal. On March 6, 2019, Reach Out for Children and Homes, International (ROCHI Foundation) was born and registered as a non- profit organization in the Secretary of State of California, USA.
The scenario of Covid 19 Pandemic in 2020 made a loud voice to raise more funds to help more people from the most depressed areas in the Philippines. This is also a good opportunity for the people of America not only to share material blessings but also to meet the socio-spiritual needs of the least, to have hope, peace, and security for a good future that lies ahead.
It’s been years already that we focus on assisting a small community of Banoyo, San Luis, Batangas, where they receive school supplies, feeding programs, regular socio- spiritual activities, livelihood assistance, particularly fish nets for seven families, and some emergency assistance for medical needs.
We are also assisting a small community among the Dumagat tribe in Sitio Cabiao, Brgy. Kalawakan, DRT, Bulacan, where the mountain people can eat only once a day with what they have in their forest surroundings, like bananas, corn, or sweet potatoes. They don’t have a literal decent house except for dilapidated shades made of wood from the trees and leaves from the forest. Water system, multi-purpose hall, seedlings for vegetable farming, carpentry and garden tools, school supplies, mosquito nets, regular food and clothing assistance, and some medical and hospitalization assistance were given to them. We provide training for value formation and community development for the people.
The third group that we are assisting is the People With Disabilities Group (PWD’s) from Upper Citrus, Sapang Palay, City of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, where in one barangay alone, there are 250 identified PWDs. They also suffer from severe poverty and severe health issues, which is why we assist them with regular programs that will help them see the beauty of life despite their disabilities and poverty. We keep on distributing goods for their basic needs. We wanted to do more for them, like livelihood assistance and schooling needs of their children, so with their medical needs and decent housing.
